The Windows 10 security falloff is coming
Windows 10 currently operates on 2/3rds of active Windows systems, but Microsoft will stop releasing free security updates next year.
Good morning! Or good afternoon. We have no way to know when you’re reading this. How about just “good”?
Either way, today, October 29th, is the 55th anniversary of the first message sent over the Internet. UCLA student Charley Kline sent the word “lo” to a computer at the Stanford Research Institute. He was trying to send “login” but the server crashed; an hour later, the last 3 letters arrived. So it goes!

📰 News Roundup
Lots of PCs are poised to fall off the Windows 10 update cliff October 14, 2025
In less than a year (October 14th, 2025), Windows will stop releasing free security updates for Windows 10. Yes, you read that right: Bill Gates himself will personally twist close the very faucet that security updates spring forth from. But don’t worry: businesses and individuals alike will still be able to purchase 3 years of updates from Microsoft, because money. Ars Technica reports that most users will have to spring for new machines entirely(!!!), as many Windows 10 PCs don’t have the system requirements to operate Windows 11, which has had a slow rollout. Windows 10 currently operates on 2/3rds of Windows systems… so this is an interesting decision from Microsoft to say the least.
National Public Data, the hacked data broker, files for bankruptcy
Florida’s very own National Public Data is filing for bankruptcy because of a wave of litigation due to a massive data breach that caused millions of Social Security numbers to get leaked. The parent company, Jerico Pictures, which is a film production company who’s sole output appears to be (we’re not making this up) a reality show called Country Daze, “faces substantial uncertainty facing regulatory challenges by the Federal Trade Commission and more than 20 states with civil penalties for data breaches” according to the CEO of Jerico Pictures (and erstwhile Country Daze star), Salvatore Verini. Could this get any more Florida? Yes, when you read that NPD published its own passwords and also when you see Salvatore’s acting reel. He’s not bad!
